My path to Counseling was far from linear but exactly what it needed to be to open my eyes to the interconnectedness of the world we live in.
It began in college at Syracuse University, in upstate New York, where I obtained my undergraduate degree in Nutrition and Dietetics in 2010. I came away understanding that “we are what we eat” but I couldn’t help but to notice how my clients struggled with sustaining behavioral changes that would lead them to live healthier lives- despite their deepest desires to make those changes. “Something keeps getting in the way,” I kept thinking to myself. The impediment was in the psyche. It dawned on me that I couldn’t effectively counsel people on their nutritional needs without first bringing to light the psychosocial factors that shaped their development and consequently subconscious emotions, feelings and thoughts housed which kept them stuck in unhealthy habits. It became clear that I needed to learn how to counsel the mind.
Following that call, I received my Counseling degree from Harvard in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 2014. At Harvard, I completed my clinical internship at the renowned Boston Arts Academy under the supervision of Dr. Charmain Jackman, who is a Harvard-trained Psychologist and Founder of InnoPsych, Inc.
Upon graduating, I worked as a Bilingual Clinician providing individual and family counseling for the Safe at Home program at The Home for Little Wanderers in Boston, Massachusetts. Shortly after, I transitioned from this role to my hometown of New York City to lead the Counseling Department at Cristo Rey NY High School, an independent high school in East Harlem where I offered my counseling and mental health expertise for nearly a decade.
Having worked almost exclusively with trauma from early on in my professional career, I’ve sought professional learning in the mind-body connection and somatic healing as the relationship between the physical body and emotional body became undeniable to me. In 2018, I completed my 200- hour Yoga Teacher Training in Barcelona, Spain as well as an additional mentorship of 100-hour at Pure Yoga NYC in New York City under the guidance of Erica Mather, Forrest Yoga Guardian. As I understood more about the power of somatic healing in my own journey with these trainings, I dove deeper into the spiritual side of healing trauma – once again evolving my paradigm by sharpening the holistic understanding of my work. I remained open to the wonders of Human Design, TCM, Ayurveda, meditation, and indigenous healing modalities, just to name a few. In 2021 my curiosity brought me to complete the first level of the Arcturian Multidimensional Healing System to aid my understanding of energy and multidimensional work.
I invest in my professional and personal development as I believe both are equally necessary to help guide others in their own development.
