Counseling & therapy

Has your child expressed feeling… Isolated? Lost? Sad? Overwhelmed? Misunderstood? Are you noticing rapid mood swings in your teenage child? Are you sensing that your child needs help even if they keep saying they are fine? Has your child expressed wanting to talk to a Counselor or Therapist?

Adolescence is not an easy time in a young person’s life. Becoming an adolescent involves letting go of one’s childhood identity and stepping into an identity that feels more adult-like but lacks the full privileges that adults have. There is a push-pull that young people face, not being young enough and not being old enough but instead stuck in-between. This is a confusing and vulnerable time indeed.

Additionally, there are so many physiological and emotional changes occurring rapidly during this younger stage of life. These rapid changes can feel confusing, scary, and isolating for young people and may cause them to act impulsively (because most teens have not developed their communication skills). The lack of self-awareness coupled with limited communication skills may cause teenagers to react to their emotions rather than express themselves in a calm, coherent manner. It is no wonder, then, that many conflicts arise at home and in school during adolescence. Counseling can help teens navigate commonplace difficulties that are typical to these growing years.

YOUNG ADULTS CAN USE COUNSELING FOR:

Are you feeling like something is off but you cannot quite understand what that feeling is?
Do you feel that your emotions are getting in the way of you being able to live your fullest life? Have you experienced a life-altering event that has left you feeling raw, vulnerable or wounded? Has the thought of talking to someone crossed your mind?

If you’ve answered yes to any of these questions, then Counseling may be a good fit for you.

We live in a society that is alarmingly stressed; where overthinking is normalized and overextending oneself (at the expense of one’s health) is rewarded. Oftentimes, adults feel like they need help but do not know where to begin because of how normalized unhealthy habits are in today’s modern world.

You have the power to disrupt this.

Several reasons contribute to mental conflicts arising including the build up of stress, negative thinking (conscious and or subconscious), unregulated emotions and lack of self-awareness to name a few. When we do not have awareness about the factors that shaped our development and the ways we behave or react presently, it becomes harder to disrupt the habits that keep us anchored in unhealthy emotional patterns. When we are not attuned to our body’s needs, feelings, emotions, we become vulnerable to mental and physical imbalances all of which can disrupt our healthiest and happiest functioning. The first step to any change is becoming AWARE of where you are and what areas you want to transform. This awareness will help you decide what kind of life you want to live and what supports you need in order to achieve that transformation.

Is your family going through…. a loss of a loved one? Adjusting to a new home or a new country? Divorce? Any changes in relating with family members?

As you might be familiar with this saying, relationships take work, including families, as families are made up of parents and children. To achieve and maintain a healthy relationship within the family, it is important that time is carved out to become aware of, process, and understand all the family members as a whole. Changes (including ageing) can disrupt families from their healthy dynamics, and this is where Counseling may be beneficial for families in navigating changes, challenges or communication skills.
